Moving On, And Out

New Doors It's been longer than I had hoped since my last post. So many of you guys reached out in support of me and Tesoro with all the stuff that's been going on, and I can’t thank you enough for that.  Losing my investors has forced me to make some tough decisions.  I love my little headquarters in West Chester, but with the uncertainty of sales, and no help to fall back on during tough months, it is just is not going to be possible for me to keep the space. So I am writing today to make a few announcements.  I was able to find someone to move into my shop, and that will be happening in mid-May. I...

Tesoro X &Again.co Collab

When I heard there were two college students making a sustainable denim company, I knew I had to meet them. Morgan and Matt are both students at the University of Deleware. They created this company 2 years ago when they were just 20. Since they started, they have landed retail shops in Philly, created a pop-up shop in NYC and worked with some big name bloggers. Morgan and I wanted to make a collaboration happen, but with both of our use schedules, it took some time to work on ideas together. We finally launched the collection a couple weeks ago, and we love the final product. Check out the photos below to see more of &Again product, and the collab...

Gratitude

The Struggle is Real Hey guys. So it's been a long time since I’ve taken the time to post on here. More than a year actually. : O There are a lot of bullshit excuses for that, but the real reason is that I just never know how to say what I need to say. Tesoro is a small brand, working hard every day in the hopes to let one more lady know how your purchases can positively affect the world around you. And because of that, I often don’t feel like people don’t really care about what I have to say. BUT, that is going to change. It's my own insecurities that lead me to think this way, and...

Stronger Together

Damiano Collection x Llani x Tesoro There will always be moments and people in your life feed your soul, and remind you why you do what you do. As an entrepreneur, the more you can set yourself up for those moments and to be around those people, the better you will feel about today, and tomorrow. Last Saturday we had the privilege of having two talented and strong women in our shop to show some of our #tesorotribe the pieces they work so hard to produce. It was a day of talking shop, meeting new people, drinking Champagne and eating a lot of guac.   From left to right : Brit (Tesoro), Alex (Damiano Collection), Alana (Llani Shoes) It has always been...

The #TesoroTribe Gift Guide

Hello beautiful! Christmas is only 14 days away, and Hanukkah starts tomorrow! Whatever you might be celebrating this season, we have the perfect gift for you and your loved ones. We just added a "Gifts Under $100" section to the site, and its chock-full of great gifts. Those items can all be embossed with initials or a cute but short quote to tell the ones you love why you love them.  Here at Tesoro, we also believe in supporting other makers. We have some gorgeous jewelry and useful clay pieces, all made in Philly, and all made by ladies. Those items are available in store, but if you like something you see we would be happy to take a phone order...

The OG Girlboss of Chester County

Clad in armor of a black romper and color-blocked slides, I scroll through photos of my cat while I wait. Made apparent by my shaking foot, the feelings I’m experiencing are a cocktail of excitement and anxiety. As a girl with the simple dream of writing for Vogue, The Cut, or Harper’s Bazaar this is what I consider a major moment. Having arranged this interview, done the research, and prepared the questions, all that’s left to do is wait for her to arrive.  “Emily, it is so good to see you again! How is the new store?” Carolyn asks. The energy in the office elevates instantly as the subject of my interview, PA House of Representative’s Carolyn Comitta, breezes through...

Breaking Down Tesoro's Mission Statement: Conquering the world

What is perhaps the most lighthearted section of our mission statement is our claim to conquer the world. Our goal isn't to take over the Iron Throne, but to spread our message, that Made in America can be fashionable, all across the planet.  As much as Brit and I work to get the word out ourselves, we really would not have grown as much as we have, over these past two years, if it weren't for our #TesoroTribe. If you are unfamiliar with our tribe of loyal bagaholics, it is simple for you to join. The only requirement is that you proudly wear your Tesoro handbag in public. We also love seeing our bags out in the wild, so sending...

Breaking Down Tesoro's Mission Statement: Women Empowerment

There are many words that can be used to label me and other entrepreneurs like me (designer, CEO, Maker,  Millennial...) Honestly, though, the one we truly never get tired of hearing is girl boss.   Women empowerment is a very important aspect of Tesoro. As a fully women run business, we do our best to support other women with their passions as well. Our photographers, Arantxa Mosqueda, Sabina Sisterovich, and Pam Reed are three very talented local ladies we work exclusively with. We are also lucky enough to carry our bags in several women-owned shops in both West Chester and Philadelphia. After all, isn't it true that we can all go farther when we work together?   In addition to supporting fellow...

Moving On Up...To Ground Level

Well, we did it. Tesoro officially has its own store! So far we have been open for a total of 32 hours, also known as four days, and it has been extraordinary. The best part you ask? Personally speaking, having three large windows is priceless. For the past year-and-a-half I have been working from a basement office with zero windows, so our new space is a literal step-up in more ways than one.  This past Friday was our soft opening. Even with torrential downpours on and off throughout the night, we had a wonderful turnout. Friends, family and loyal customers sipped champagne and celebrated with us in our new home, 230 W Market Street in downtown West Chester, PA.  Please...

The Interview: Alana Oates of Llani

With bated breath my eyes remain fixated on the salesman kneeling at my naked feet. Delicately, he lifts the lid as the rich scent of leather permeates the air around us. In one swift motion the shoe is plucked from its box and slid onto my waiting foot. Like a shot of caffeine injected directly to the bloodstream, my heart rate quickens and my mind becomes transparently clear. It's in this instant that I realize, shoes are the answer to world peace.  Am I being dramatic? Maybe a little, but I know I'm not alone when speaking about the power of shoes. With all of their different shapes, heights, and materials, shoes are beautiful sculptures created to cover up our hideous...
